When we tried a royal road. . .
Aside from it being a “product” to buy, the Common Core standards never appealed to me because they smacked of the days of kings. Granted, we still use the “foot” to measure things and I’m certain a benevolent monarch could add salve to some wounds, but that isn’t the era in which we live. We are a Democratic Republic, where public school provides a cornerstone for democracy. So many of the products purchased to improve learning with Race to the Top money would have been better served being discussed as approaches in teacher education classes.
What is the bridge between the reform movement and its resistance?
